Abstract
Software Requirement Engineers face challenges while identifying the situational factors that can affect their Requirement Engineering (RE) process in global software development (GSD) environment. This study reports the formulation and design of the situational RE framework that not only acts as a reference guide but also allows users to identify the situational factors that can affect their RE process in GSD environment. This situational RE framework comprises of in total 22 situational factors clustered with 112 sub-factors and 5 categories were identified. Situational RE framework was based upon an extensive field of knowledge and a wide range of literature about situational RE in GSD environment. Situational RE framework would not only act as a reference guideline but would also allow the user to identify the situational factors that could affect their RE process in GSD environment. Situational RE framework is an online application that would help to overcome the competency issues of the users in order to identify the accurate and adequate set of situational factors. This is a theoretical, methodological, analytical and empirical research that makes an invaluable contribution to the existing literature and industry of situational RE in GSD environment.
