Abstract
Furrow application of Carbofuran G (0.84kg (a.i.)/ha.), Disulfoton G(1.12kg), Mephosfolan G(1.11 kg) and Thiofanox G(1.4kg at the time of sowing of jute did not check the incidence of the cotton whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gn.), and the jute yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks). Side-dressed application of these granules in between the rows of jute plants after 44 days of sowing also did not cause appreciable reduction in B. tabaci population and did not check the incidence of P. latus. Side-dressed application of high rates of Aldicarb G (3.36kg (a.i./ha), Carbofuran G (1.68 kg), Mephosfolan G (2.24kg) and Thiofanox G (1.68 kg) near the rows of jute plants after 45 days of sowing temporally reduced the B. tabaci population for a week and then had a gradual declining effect as well as did not check the incidence of P. latus. In all cases granules were found to favour the abundance of the mite.
