Abstract

Release simulation of aircraft stores is an important area as it involves pilot as well as aircraft safety. The aerodynamic forces and moments which act on the store at the time of release may be sufficient to send the store back towards the aircraft. This may not only damage the aircraft but also endanger the crew. Release simulation studies are therefore performed to ensure safety of the drop. To obtain time accurate solutions Panel Methods have been used in the Past and present. Panel Methods have their limitations as they can predict aerodynamics accurately in linear regime only. Panel Methods have the advantage that reasonably accurate simulations can be performed with much lesser computation and time. With the exponential growth in computation speed, time accurate full Navier-Stokes simulations are increasingly been used to simulate this phenomenon with more accuracy. In this study the store release problem has been addressed using Euler Equation to reduce grid complexity and computation time. The CFD results have been compared with Panel results-to compare the difference between the trajectories of the store under similar set of conditions.
