Abstract
Development of gas reservoirs that contain sour gas having heating value from low to medium and with high CO2 content poses a daunting technical challenge. The variation of gas composition in a field coupled with variations in reservoir quality and pressure within reservoir make reservoir monitoring and management exigent to ensure supply of gas with contractual specification. Oil and Gas Development Company Limited owns a 100 percent working interest in Uch Gas Field which is located in the Dera Bugti District of Balochistan province. The producing formation is Sui Main Limestone of Lower Eocene age. The Uch anticline is an elongated structure having three separate highs or Lobes identified as Western, Central and Eastern. Initial gas in place of all three lobes is estimated to be more than five Tcf. The distribution of gas reserves is uneven between the lobes. The gas of all lobes is sour and its composition varies between the lobes and also within each lobe. The Central and Western Lobes contain gas of low heating value while that of Eastern lobe has medium heating value. Gas produced from the three lobes is commingled and processed by selective absorption through formulated MDEA to remove H2S. The processed gas is delivered to M/S Uch Power Limited (UPL) for power generation at Dera Murad Jamali. OGDCL has successfully managed to develop the field. This paper discusses the strategy applied to commingle gas within individual lobes and between the lobes keeping in view the gas reserves, formation pressure and the variation in gas composition. It further describes the process to ensure delivery of gas at contractual specifications.
