Abstract
This article aimed at analysis of the squeeze film behaviour between electrically conducting porous rough annular plates with electrically conducting lubricant in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The bearing system was assumed to have transversely rough surfaces. The roughness of the bearing system was characterized by a stochastic random variable with non zero mean, variance and skewness. The associated Reynolds equation was stochastically averaged with respect to the random roughness parameter and then solved with suitable boundary conditions to obtain the pressure distribution, which was then used to get the load carrying capacity leading to the calculation of response time. The results are presented graphically as well as in tabular form. It is noticed that the transverse surface roughness affected the bearing system adversely. It is seen that the bearing system registered an improved performance owing to hydromagnetization. Besides the load carrying capacity increased considerably with respect to the aspect ratio and the conductivity. It is noticed that the negative effect induced by the standard deviation and porosity could be compensated to a large extent in the case of negatively skewed roughness by the positive effect of the aspect ratio and the conductivity especially, when negative variance occurred. In addition, it is observed that the bearing with magnetic field could support a load even when there was no flow.
