Abstract
The study was aimed to assess spatial and temporal impact of soil management practices on selective soil properties under banana cultivation. In order to meet the objective, present study was conducted at banana fields of Uthal district Lasbela. Samples were collected from six banana fields having age more than 5 years. The samples were subjected to analysis for moisture contents, bulk density, and infiltration rate. The results were opted from samples are highest Bulk density was noted in samples from Banodi 4 (1.5 g cm-3) field having age of more than 10 years on the other hand Banodi 1 field had a bulk density of lowest values (1.2 g cm-3). Maximum porosity was noted from sample collected from awadan 55% field having age of more than 12 year on the other hand awadan 1 field had a porosity of lowest values 40%. Maximum water content was noted in samples from Banodi (0.27 g/g) field having age of more than 11 years on other hand Banodi 1 field had a water content of lowest values 0.20 (g/g). Highest degree of saturation was noted in samples from Banodi (0.7) field having age of more than 10 years on the other hand Banodi 1 field had a degree of saturation of lowest values (0.4). Highest infiltration rate was noted in sample from Banodi 4 (20-inch hour-1) field having age of more than ten years on the other Banodi field had infiltration rate of lowest values (5-inch hour-1). It can be concluded that the management practices under banana crop can enhance the soil physical health by decreasing BD and increasing porosity and water contents.
