Abstract:
Pakistan is blessed with rich tourism potential because of its ironic antiquity, culture, biological and geographical diversity. Tourism development in a region has both pros and cons for local communities. On one side, it boosts up economic growth and providing various facilities to the locals. On the other side, it creates many negative externalities such as the destruction of the environment and natural resources, and most prominently disturbs the community's norms and culture. Travelers have for quite some time been attracted to Pakistan to encounter a nation that flaunts natural beauty, cultural richness, and unparalleled hospitality. Pakistan has various tourist destinations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, one of those is Kumrat Valley, which has become a tourist hotspot in recent times after the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan, visited the valley. Four years back, there was not a single lodgings made of tents and now there are numerous lodgings sprawling under almost every tree. During 2022, half of the habitat had been destroyed by construction of temporary hostels. With respect to fungi, this valley is hotspot and around twenty novel taxa had been described, many are still in pipeline. If such sites remained open for public, habitat of several novel taxa which could be beneficial for living beings will be lost. To reduce the negative effects on these tourist destinations, studies regarding environmental awareness must be promoted among tourists to ensure that they exhibit pro-environmental behavior. This beautiful place of land will lose its natural beauty along with all sorts of fungal species still waiting to be documented and we will be unable to collect any samples from there.
