Abstract:
In the present research work, effect of fluoride on the kidney offish, Cirrhinus mrigala was observed. Fish were acclimatized under laboratory conditions and exposed to different concentrations of sodium fluoride from 200 to 1200mg/l for 96 hours to find out the LC50 that was about 312mg/l. The experiment was conducted in two phases, acute and sub acute. In acute phase, 4 groups were made with 50, 70 and 90 mg/l of sodium fluoride concentration. For sub acute phase, 7 groups were made having 1,2,4,8,16 and 32 days exposing the fluoride concentration as 25mg/l. In all phases, control was run parallel to each group. In the all above exposures, it was concluded that various doses of fluoride showed significant, moderately and highly significant histopathological changes in the kidney such as pyknotic nuclei, necrosis, dilation of renal tubules & glomerulus, clogging of space between bowman`s capsule and glomerulus, degeneration, disintegration, infiltration of lymphocytes and destruction of cells. These changes were time and dose dependent.
