Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the nutritive value of sunflower oil meal (SFOM) as a vegetable protein source in broiler rations. The meal was incorporated at 0,5, 10, 12, and 20 (SBM) on protein equivalent basis. The effect of feeding different experimental rations was studied in terms of growth rate, feed utilization, dressing percentage and weight of internal organs of the chicks. The results indicated that increasing SFOM level in the rations progressively reduced the growth rate of the chicks, though the decrease was statistically non-significant. The chicks though the decrease was statistically non-significant. The chicks fed different experimental rations consumed almost similar quantity of feed. The feed efficiency of the chicks fed 20 per cent SFOM was significantly (P.05) poor as compared with the control. SFOM feeding did not significantly affect the dressing percentage and weight of internal organs of the chicks. It showed that SFOM feeding at levels upto 15 per cent in the ration gave satisfactory growth performance, quite comparable with the control soybean ration.
