Abstract:
The results showed that mites were only 4.95% of the total fauna thus collected while the fauna belonging to class Insecta was predominant. Dipters represented the highest number (24% including maggots) followed by Coleoptera, (20.26%). Thysanoptera (16.90%), Heteroptera (15.50%), Homoptera (8.30%) and Collembola (7.75%). The monthly total number of insects recovered from Soil samples registered a consistent increase from January to about middle of May. Thysanoptera, Diptera and Coleoptera were recovered throughout the study period whereas Diplura were recovered mainly in January.
