Abstract:
Three different textured soils (loam, clay loam and clay) with three- pH-levers (7.0; 8.0 and 9.0) were used to study the. influence of soil pH and texture on the adsorption of added phosphorus in these soils. The study was conducted in the laboratory using four rates of applied phosphorus viz., 10, 20, 30 and 50 parts per million (ppm). Phosphorus adsorption was found to be dependent upon soil, pH and texture and increased with the increasing fineness of gains. Phosphorus adsorption was maximum at pH 8.0 and decreased when soil pH was raised from 8.0 to 9.0. Similar phosphorus adsorption behaviour was observed in all the soils both in the presence or absence of 0.1 N NaCI used as an electrolyte. Langmuir equation- was also found to be valid over the entire range of phosphorus applied.
