Abstract:
Effect of 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 krad gamma rays were observed on germination percentage, tillers and leaves/plant, spikelets/spike, grain yield/treatment and 1000-grain weight of barley, C-4 and triticale,T-77 varieties. All the characters except leaves/plant exhibited highly significant differences between the mean values of characters due to various radiation doses. The severity of deleterious effect, in general, was dependent upon the intensity of radiation dose for all the characters. Maximum inhibitory effects were due to 40 krad and were found as 38.14%, 39.38%, 3.80% 23.09%, 1.93% and 12.68% for germination percentage, tiller/leaves/plant, spikelets/spike, grain yield/treatment and 1000 grain weight respectively, when compared with their controls.
