First record of new Caryophyllidean (Capingentidae: Pseudoheteroinverta) cestode from Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch) from Indian sub-continent.

Abstract:
A new species of Piscian tapeworm, Pseudoheteroinverta babaii n. sp. is described and illustrated here from fresh water silluroid fish singhe, Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch). The present form is unique in various morphometric features viz. monopleuroide body form; worm size; simple scolex devoid of any holdfast organ; testes numerous, scattered in medullary parenchyma up to the upper limit of median medullary cirrus pouch; internal seminal vesicle; posteriorly located inverted `A` shaped ovary; receptaculum seminis; vagina; isthmus; vitelline follicle scattered in medullary as well as in cortical region, never touches ovarian lobes; long, non­glandular uterus reaches below isthmus and numerous, operculated eggs.
