Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to evaluate the uptake of cadmium on to activated charcoal derived from coconut shell. The results were found to be good enough to apply activated charcoal derived from coconut for the removal of cadmium from environment. Cadmium removal efficiency through adsorption was enhanced by decreasing the concentration and increase of pH of the solution. Equilibrium data were plotted by both Freundlich and Langmuir models. The adsorption kinetics data indicate the applicability of the first order rate expression. Intraparticle diffusion was found to rate limiting step partly.
