Vitiligo or Leukoderma.

Abstract:
The physiological action involved is touched and the causes responsible for the disease are discussed. Signs and symptoms are briefly mentioned and various methods of diagnosis are given. vitiligo can be treated with okoresinous extract of the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia (Bouchi) or with proprietary preparation Meladinine (amoidine and ammidine) paint. Emetine hydrochloride 1 gm , injections biweekly is an effective treatment for vitiligo and the author had been able to cure 50% of cases with it. About half a dozen other drugs namely, entamide, diodehydroxyquinoline, chloroquine phosphate, arensical, broad spectrum antibiotics, emetin bismuth iodide, antimalarial drugs, adrenocorticotropic hormone, multivitamin B 12 and A. C. T. H. are effective in the treatment of leukoderma. Concludes that contrary to the common belief leukoderma or vitiligo is not an incurable disease. Perserverance on the part of the patient and a sympathetic attitude on the part of the physicians are bound to lead to success.
