Abstract:
Objective: To assess presentat ion and management of posterior urethral valve (PUV) at our center. Methodology: A descriptive (retrospective cohort) study was done at Department of Urology, CMC @ Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana from January 2014 to December 2019. A total of male 50 cases of posterior urethral valves were diagnosed during the period. Age of the patients, clinical presentation, its duration, complications, diagnostic investigations, initial treatment were recorded at the time of presentation, and management was conducted at Department of pediatric nephrology and pediatric urology. Results: Patients' age was between 2.89 and 4.56 years at the time of presentation, while the frequent drainage by urethral catheterization was the primary treatment. In the study, the success was achieved in 38 cases, cutaneo us ureterostomy in 21 cases while none had vesicotomy. The number of patients remained 3 (6%) which were lost to follow up and had not access the required treatment for profound kidney malfunction. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study with PUV seemed to delay in our health centers, which may lead to delay diagnosis, poor renal function, and renal support. Efforts should be taken to improve awareness by diagnosis to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate.
