Abstract:
In the present work, five different Schiff bases of acetophenone were synthesized with aniline (AL1) and its mono- and di-chloro derivatives including ortho-chloroaniline (AL2), metachloroaniline (AL3), para-chloroaniline (AL4), and 2,4-dichloroaniline (AL5) and were characterized using GC-MS (gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer), 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral data. Antioxidant properties of the bases were evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging, FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Potential), reducing power, phosphomolybdate and lipid peroxidation assays. None of the synthesized compounds responded to DPPH assay. All synthesized compounds responded moderately to FRAP, reducing power and phosphomolybdate assay, and had effective lipid peroxidation inhibition power. Since few prepared bases inhibits Urease and Protease, hence it shows Schiff Bases have such properties.Prepared Schiff Bases show low to moderate antibacterial activity against most of the bacterial strains.
