Abstract:
Acetone-Butanol fermentation of cane molasses was studied in both laboratory and pilot plant scale fermenters by Clostridium acetobytylicum. Of all the substrates used such as canemolasses or defatted rice bran, butanol production was maximum in cane molasses medium. The amount of total solvents produced was in general, about 2.5 per cent. The average percentage ratio of various solvents such as acetone, butanol and ethanol was generally 10:85:5. The optimum level of sugar, (NH4)2 SO4 CaCo3 and the size of inoculum were also determined.
