Design and Fabrication of Acceleration canceling Hydrophone with optimized Sensitivity.

Abstract:
A configuration with high sensitivity and acceleration canceling cylindrical hydrophone has been developed. The required sensitivity is realized by fabricating piezoelectric tubes of opposite polarities in series, decreasing the capacitance by half and consequently increasing the voltage to double, augmenting the acoustic sensitivity by 5dB in actual against the calculated 6dB. Capping the elements at the ends further increases the sensitivity by 3dB against the same theoretical value. The acceleration canceling is achieved with symmetrical central mounting technique, introducing a particular nodal band across the circumference. Using this specially designed band acceleration canceling of -55 dBV/g is achieved in average as compared to calculated-74dBV/g. In this paper operating principles, design and modeling of the fabricated hydrophone will be discussed. The test results of acoustic sensitivity and longitudinal acceleration cancelling achieved will also be presented.
