Abstract:
An experimental study, the details of which is presented in this paper, was carried out with the particular intention to put forward a set of proposals regarding the design and fill in the gaps were there is dearth of information about the experimental behaviour of the deep RC beams especially those with openings to give access from one part to another part of the structure. The test programme consisted of seven RC beams of relatively moderate size, with and without openings subjected to either single central point loading or to an off-centre two point loading. The behaviour of the beams was studied in terms of (a) load-displacement relationship (b) strain distribution at various sections (c) crack pattern and crack propagation and (d) failure characteristics.
