Abstract:
Using standard analytical methods, coupled with atomic absorption spectrophotometry, studies on water quality control parameters are conducted and the relevant data are reported for local public utility waters drawn from areas of Punjab falling within a radial distance of 80 km from Islamabad. The estimated physicochemical parameters include temperature, pH, conductance, alkalinity, hardness, phosphate, nitrate/nitrite, TDS, DO and COD alongwith essential/non-essential trace metals such as sodium, potassium, zinc, cobalt, strontium, nickel, copper, iron, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and barium. The estimated date have a precision of *1.5% and are quoted at 2S confidence level. Probable contamination aspects associated with these waters are discussed in terms of internationally allowed upper levels set for various parameters.
