Abstract:
Fractional precipitation of the acitic acid solution of the seeds of P. harmala in ammonia was carried out. Comparative yields of harmidine and harmine alkaloids melting around 235 to 240C were recorded, and a new crystalline constituent, previously named as pegaline melting at 295-96 C, was isolated. Chemical analysis of this constituent indicate that it is anew amino acid corresponding to a homologue of hydroxyl-proline.
