Abstract:
Food processing can be termed as any measured change in a food that takes place before it is available for the consumer to eat. It can be as simple as "freezing or drying" by which food preserves its nutrients and freshness or as compound as formulating a frozen meal with the right balance of nutrients and its other constituents. Material and Method: A cross-sectional survey was done on pregnant women visiting antenatal care clinics of Patel hospital Karachi. From February to June 2019, they were recruited. A simple Random sampling technique was used for data collection. Result: A total of 426 women were included in this analysis. The age range in this study was 16-35 years. Most of the women in this study were educated, and mostly women were foundto be weighted 60-80kg. 97.2% of women in the study were taking processed food, andamong these women, the majority were rarely taken 48%(n=204), 34.1% (145) were taken 1-3times per week, and 12.9%(n=55) were taken daily basis. Results showed that the major factorswere convenience, good taste, and availability of processed food.Conclusion: The study is a preliminary investigation survey to provide basic informationabout ultra-Processed food consumption among pregnant women in Karachi
