Abstract:
Plaque cells, acidophil superficial cells, basophil oval intermediate cells, parabasal and basal cells were evaluated percentage wise besides acidophilic index (A.I.) and erythrocyte (RBC) and Leukocyte (WBC) estimation in stained vaginal smears in both normal and disturbed parturition cows of Austrian Brown Cattle on day 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 postpartum. In normal parturition cows acidophilic indicies appeared below 50 per cent on day 1 postpartum, on day 3 postpartum above 50 per cent between 5th and 7th day postpartum average 35 per cent and on day 14 postpartum about 60 per cent. Disturbed parturition cows had A.I. below 50 per cent on day 1 and 3 postpartum reached 55 per cent on day 5 postpartum, went down (19%) on day 7 postpartum and rose again on 14 postpartum to.60 per cent. Normal parturating cows had on the average higher A.I. compared to disturbed parturition cows. The differences were statistically non-significant. RBC and WBC's were present in both the groups in varying quantities on different days of examination.
