Abstract:
To know the effect of moisture level, light and aeration on nitrogen fixation in Danish agricultural soils under continuous barley cultivation, surface samples of 0-15 cm depth were collected from Roskilde experiment station. The investigations were made under laboratory optimal conditions. Moisture levels of 35% and 70% on oven dry basis, Air, Air t Argon and Argon atmospheres for aeration purpose were maintained and the treated samples were incubated at 25 °C in both, the dark and the light conditions. After injection of 10% acetylene it's reduction was measured at the time intervals of 24.48 and 72 hours. It was observed that acetylene reduction increased with increase in the level of moisture. The reduction rate was comparatively more in light and under aerobic conditions as compared with that of dark and under an-aerobic conditions.
