Abstract:
A two-year field study to evaluate the comparative usefulness of green manure and inorganic fertilizer in influencing the performance of wheat crop was conducted during 1991-93. Yield and yield components like plant height number of tillers M-2 spike length, number of grains ear-1 and 1000-grain weight were significantly affected by fertilizer treatment which out-crossed green manuring practices. Among green manuring practices, incorporation of whole plant (guara) appeared to be more usefull and effective producing 2000 kg ha-1 grains of succeeding wheat crop than those of root alone (1666 kg ha-1) and shoot alone (1333 kg ha- 1). All the agronomic traits except spike length showed strong positive association with grain yield.
