Abstract:
Gamma irradiated seeds of Cicer arietinum produced a number of red mutant plants at different doses of radiation in the M2 generation. Electron microscopic study of the leaves of these red mutants revealed an unusual structure in some of the plastids. This structure consisted of parallel rows of particles, separate and joined resulting in the formation of curved lines with lines of dots lying between them, as in a finger print. To the best of the authors knowledge this type of abnormality of photosynthetic lamellae has not been reported earlier and is presented FOR THE FIRST TIME.
