Abstract:
A novel active optical current transducer, which exploits the magnetic potentiometer to sense the measured current and uses optic-fiber to isolate the signal from high voltage, is described in this study. The principles of this kind of transducer are analyzed and its transient simulation is carried out through MATLAB. The experiment results have proven it has the advantages both of conventional and optical devices. It can be applied both in measurement and in protection relays due to its good linearity, rapid response, broad dynamic range, wide frequency band, no magnetic saturation, compact size, light weight and inherent insulation.
