Abstract:
This paper describes the VLSI design of H.263 video codec for low power applications. Architectures of Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation, Discrete Cosine Transform, Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform, Quantization, and Inverse Quantization modules are discussed. H.263 is an international standard recommended ITU-T, with an outstanding coding efficiency that can achieve 30Kbps over PSTN. Therefore, it is most suited for low bit rate communication applications like desktop video conferencing, Internet video, surveillance and monitoring, mobile phones.
