Abstract:
To change the gap spacings between two electrodes in ultra-high vacuum system, two electrode supports were used one fixed the other movable. The movement of the second electrode was controlled externally by an 'Adjustable Electrode Mechanism'. This electrode support was insulated from the main experimental chamber by using ceramic insulators so that high voltage upto 50 KV can be applied to the electrodes. It was also capable of baking upto 300C for the purpose of out-gassing the experimental chamber. An over all movement of 10-12 mm was obtained with an accuracy of adjustment of less than 5 microns.
