Abstract:

Twenty-one species of blue-green algae belonging to 11 genera and three families were weekly collected from fountain water of various historical places at Lahore City during 2nd March to 31st October 1996. They were taxonomically investigated and found to belong to the order Nostocales (Nostocophyceae, Cyanophyta). It was observed that these species started their vegetative development in the spring. They were most abundant in the summer and gradually disappeared up to autumn. The genera Porphyrosiphon, Trichormus and Wollea are being reported for the first time from any area of Pakistan.
