Typical profile of a motivated care giver of disabled in Pakistan.

Abstract:
Background & Objectives: With continuing Rehabilitation of the ill; the interest and participation of the care givers in the care giving process may decline and even wear off, hampering the better functioning of the care recipient. Few available literatures explore the continued motivation of the caregivers. The authors thus designed an independent survey to investigate motivation of the care givers consulting local rehabilitation facilities of Rawalpindi/ Islamabad Pakistan. The study attempted to explore a typical profile of a motivated caregiver in Pakistan. Methods: A self developed semi structured questionnaire was designed on the basis of available care giving research and thorough review of the accessible literature on motivation. The questionnaire aimed to establish Highly Motivated Caregivers (HMC) was given to a population of 120 caregivers, randomly selected from rehabilitation facilities of Rawalpindi/ Islamabad Pakistan over a course of two months time. Results: the results showed that almost 57% Care Giver belonged to age group between 25-45 years old. It was also that out of 120 care givers 54% were female Care Givers and 45% Care Givers were male and 77 % were married Care Givers. From the Punjab province 58% Care Giver were participated in the study. The results showed 58% Care Givers had education from 10 to 14 years of schooling. Almost 77% of Care Givers belonged to middle class families. Almost 42% of Care Givers were parents of patients, 27% of Care Givers were spouses. Conclusion: This study indicated that typical profile of highly motivated care giver of disabled in Pakistan usually belong to middle class population of province of Punjab with low education level and are close relative of patients.
