Abstract:
The prediction of effective diffusion coefficients in porous catalysts is a fundamental problem in catalysis and a number of theoretical models of the porous structure have been devised for such a purpose. The two most prominent and widely used simple porous structure models are: (1) the model of Wakao and Smith and (2) the model of Johnson and Stewart. Both these models have certain shortcomings and sometimes produce unsatisfactory results. In this paper a simple structural models of porous catalysts which endeavors to remedy the defects of the above-mentioned models to a certain extent is- presented. The model is very simple to use and although an adjustable parameter J is introduced to account for tortuosities and other related effects, it does give reasonable results even without this parameter. It appears to be applicable to a wide variety of porous structures.
