Abstract:
Two inbred lines derived from local open pollinated variety of maize (Zea mays L. ) were exposed to different doses of gamma irradiation. Lower doses of irradiation were found to cause significant increase in the grain yield/plant. The total yield/plot, however, showed non significant increase. The apparent contrast observed is due to the decreased plant population of the irradiated material. Increase in total yield is expected with the use of increased seed rate of irradiated material.
