Abstract:
Amylolytic activity of 28 species of thermophilic and thermotolerant fungi belonging to 274 isolates from 171 substrates collected from different parts of Pakistan was studied by three different meth.)ds. Absidia blakesleeana Lendner, A. corymbifera (Cohn) Saccardo and Trotter, Aspergiillus fumigates Fres., Aspergillus ficuum, (Reich.) Hennings, A. ochraceus Wilhelm, A. sydowi (Bain and Sart.), Thom and Church, A. terreus Thom, A. violaceus, Fennel and Raper, A. unifateralis Thrower, Chaetoinium thermophile vars coprophile and dissitum Cooney and Emerson, Chrysosporium tropicum, Carmichael, Geotrichum candidum var thermoideum, var nov. Gilmaniella thermophila sp. nov., Hemicola grisea var. thermoidea Humicola insolens Cooney and Emerson, Mucor miehei Cooney and Emerson, M. pusillus Cooney and Emerson, M. varians Povah, Papulaspora thermophila Fergus Penicillium diponrii Griffon and Maublanc, Rhizomucor Pakistanicus, sp. nov., Rhizopus arrhizus Fischer, Thermomyees lanuginosuc Tsiklinskaya and Torula thermophila Cooney and Emerson were found to be amylolytic by one method or the other. Caicarisporiella thermophila (Evans) de Hoog, M elanocarpus albomyces (Cooney and Emerson) von Arx, and Myceliophthora thermophilum (Apinis) Von Oorschot proved to be non-amylolytic.
