Abstract:
Chishtian is a tehsil in Bahawalnagar district in Punjab Province, Pakistan. The region is semiarid to arid and adjacent to the Cholistan Desert. These sandy plains benefited from three rivers Sutlej, Beas and Hakra and this is the major reason of unique floristic and species diversification in this area, especially fungal diversity. Different fungal surveys were conducted to explore the mushroom diversity in this area during rainy seasons. The mushrooms were analyzed by morphological and anatomical characterization. Molecular analyses based on ITS and LSU followed by phylogenetic analyses shown rich diversity of mushrooms. The genera included are Amanita, Agaricus, Hymenagaricus, Podaxis, Panaelous, Marasmius, Coprinopsis, Montagnea, Fusarium, Candolleomyces, Psathyrella, Volvariella. This shows that these areas are rich in fungal diversity and there is further need to explore these areas.
