Abstract:
Fertilizer trials were laid out to study the effect of different doses of nitrogen and potash on the yield, specific gravity, dry matter and starch content of potato. The yield of tubers was significantly increased by all levels of nitrogen application. Potash upto 50 kg per ha had a favourable effect on the yield. The interaction of nitrogen and potash was non-significant in increasing the yield of tubers. Nitrogen alone and in combination with potash significantly increased the specific gravity, dry matter and starch content and hence improved the quality of tubers. There was a strong positive correlation between specific gravity, dry matter and starch content of the tubers.
