Abstract:
The present studies were conducted to determine the toxicity and effect on gallery formation in subterranean termites by 5, 10 and 15% aqueous, ethanol and acetone extracts of seeds of Piper nigrum L. at DG Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. Toxicity test consisted of releasing workers of Odontotermes sp. and Microtermes sp. in soil and following death of all workers to find out LT s. The length of tunnels made in soils treated with all seed extracts were compared with a 50 control treatment. Results revealed that lowest LT was found in acetone extract. The 50 shortest tunnel length was recorded in ethanol extract after 15 min of releasing workers in treated soils. The discussion is related to suitability of P. nigrum as termiticides for the species mentioned in this paper.
