Abstract:
X-ray diffraction, D.T.A. chemical analysis and other ceramic data (limited to porosity and shrinkage measurements) are presented for a bauxite from Azad Kashmir. X-ray studies revealed that the bauxite contains minerals diaspore and boehmite both, which otherwise was difficult to differentiate. Ceramic properties are interpreted on the basis of D.T.A. and other data obtained. The bauxite was found suitable for ceramic purposes. such as for making high alumina refractories for lining in metallurgical furnances as well as in glass furnaces and in the kilns used for the manufacture of high lime cements.
