Abstract:
Using remote sensing, field inventory and survey data, this study quantified ecosystem services dynamics with land use change (LUC) and climate change(CC) in the Hindu Kush, Himalaya ranges of Pakistan. The results show that between 2000 and 2050, the area of bare soil (BS) increased by 0.10 year-1,whilst the area of grassland (GL), water bodies (WB) and built land (BL)expanded by 0.27%, 2.67% and 3.33% year-1 respectively. Similarly, forest land(FL), agriculture land (AL) and snow glacier (SG) were reduced at annual rates of 0.20%, 0.02% and 0.48%, respectively. The amount of area in lower LST classes (24 o C) expanded by 2.12% year-1. From the base year (2010) to 2050, CC and LUC diminish the total worth of ES by 9.2 billion USD (0.184 billion USD per year). Effective counter approaches such as agroforestry, afforestation and reforestation campaigns and community and conservation involvement in natural resources management (NRM) are quintessential for sustainable ecosystem services provision as well protection of natural resources
