Abstract:
Human nervous system has evolved to respond to any given situation, which govern our behaviors. Someone who is suffering from neurological decline &/or psychopathology suffers not only because of the features of disease, but also because of his/her changed behavior and personality. Multiple factors contribute to the disease such as, age related decline, injury &/or injury to brain tissue, enlargement of ventricles, changes in neurotransmitters/receptors mainly. Genetic &/or environmental influences are the major contributors. These encompass modifiable as well as non-modifiable risk factors. Age related decline is to a large extent modifiable risk factor and if addressed with proper support, it can lead to positive aging. Screening for such decline can be done using an array of non-invasive tools, each specific for certain part of the nervous system. The conditions can be an outcome of deterioration to any part of the brain, frontal lobe. temporal lobe, right hemisphere damage, Cingulated cortex & dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, olfactory cortex, motor cortex, posterior parietal cortex, all of which are involved in intricate responses to various stimuli. Disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, dementia, muscle frailty are all of gradual onset. These non-invasive tools can assess these early damage where the disease is yet to come. These indicators can serve as warning signs that can be used in research & experimental settings on human subjects. Since the onset of most of these pathological conditions is much gradual, earlier screening of otherwise healthy individuals could help us highlight the vulnerable individuals of our society and an early intervention could help them lead a better quality of life. Highlighting these individuals in our population in routine screening could help us devise better plan for assisting them in their tedious journey way early, which otherwise would go unnoticed until the disorder manifests itself on much larger scale.
