Abstract:
A total five. samples of amniotic fluid taken from Egyptian pregnancies at labour were available for study. Quantitative determinations for the fatty acid composition of amniotic flud phospholipid by gas-liquid chromatography showed that paimitic acid (C16:0) had the highest concentration among the twelve fatty acids detected. A good correlation was found between the maternal age, parity, previous pregnancy, birth-body weight, and the numbers and, the concentrations for the fatty acid composition. The mean percentage value for unsaturated fatty acids was found to be 28.11. The five fatty acids which were detected in all cases studied were Palmitic (C16:0), Hexadecenoic (Palmitoleic) (C16:0), stearic (C18:1) oleic (C18:0) and linoleic (C18:2) acids.
