Abstract:
Studies were conducted at the Agricultural Research Station Bahawalpur, to determine optimum dose of maleic hydrazide to check the growth of tobacco suckers with minimum deleterious effect on the yield of tobacco leaves. The five concentrations of the chemical used ranged from zero percent to two percent, with gradual increase of 0.5 percent. It was observed that maleic hydrazide inhibited the growth of tobacco suckers upto 65% in comparison with the untreated plants. The application of tobacco leaves, which was 89.3% higher than the control while the yield increase was only 42% when 2% concentration of the chemical was used.
