Abstract:
The age old dictum "rigid", unintempted enforced rest for all cases of tuberculous joints " is giving way to the more practical and rational approach for the movement of the joint, and quick control on infectious. In cases where the disease is synovial with proper therapy the normal function of a joint is restored. In late cases when joint is destroyed, the question of restoration of normal function is not possible and such, depending upon the patient`s demand the joint can be arthrodesed or left to heal with fibrous ankylosis. Even in these cases excision of the joint focus certainly helps in the cure of the disease. Bone and joint tuberculosis is secondary to tuberculosis also where in the body and, as such, a thorough search .for the primary foot*: should always be made. As in every case diagnosed as tuberculosis receives the anti-tubercular drug therapy for at least a year or more, Diagnosis should be certain and not merely made on doubt. Synovial biopsy calls for in most cases of tuberculous knee joint.
