Abstract:
In a moderately diverse desert vegetation, diversity is almost equally well VI n2 N-VE n2 N measured by Mchitosh`s 1- i and Margalefs H. McIntosh`s index __ N-VN show a somewhat low variability. The eqitability is best measured by N-N/En: 4N-NAN-(S-1)12 (S-I)] N- _N - [N-V[N—(S-1)]2 + (S-1)] - NTS though N-VEn2i appears to be substantially more advantageous N-NaN-(S-1)12 + (S-1) than other currently used equitability indices. Equitability indices were insensitive to small sampling variability and ordinary standard deviation was found to be appropriate equitability measure in situations where relative abundance pattern was geometric or approximately geometric. The two indices of species richness (SWN and S- I /Log N) show similar statistical behaviour.
