Abstract:
In medical image analysis, registration is the process of aligning two or more input images of the same organ into a single more informative image. Registration process involves the estimation of optimal transformation that best aligns the objects of interest in the input images. The performance of registration method is measured on the basis of accuracy, reliability, robustness and efficiency. This study has two main objectives. Firstly, to systematically present the process and main components of medical image registration and secondly to report the important parameters for its performance. Our approach of review is unique from already published work because we have performed detailed investigation on the p r o c e s s a n d p e r f o r m a n c e o f m e d i c a l i m a g e registration. The knowledge on the work that has been developed in the area is mathematically presented in a compact form. The contribution is to provide useful platform for the researchers and clinicians in the field and a reference for those searching for literature on the process, components and performance of medical image registration.
