Abstract:
E-government promises efficient and effective digital access to public services through innovative communication technologies such as Internet. With the passage of time it is realised that Internet cannot be the only medium of electronic public service delivery when it comes down to technologically challenged and less educated societies. Since 2000, Government of Pakistan has taken major initiatives of providing eServices under the supervision of Electronic Government Directorate. This paper presents an analysis of the strategy adopted by Pakistan to promote e-Government. The paper takes an account of the paradigm shift towards alternative service channels for the provision of eServices in Pakistan. With the help of globally recognised model of e-Government, this study analyses Pakistan’s approach towards dealing with G2C services. Moreover, the paper also deals with a question whether widely popular approach of Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture can help promote G2C services in Pakistan.
