Abstract:
Adolescence is a very sensitive period in a humans’ life, since the events that take place during this time have the most effect on a person’s personality in the long run. The talk, the effects of stress on child and adolescent mental health covers all the obvious and unknown consequences for children and adolescents if they are placed in stressful situations. We often unknowingly place our children in stressful situations thinking that the pressure will make them act right however, it may have adverse effects in the long run. During the course of this talk, we will explore the many reasons which cause stress to our youth nowadays, its impact on their physical and mental health in the long run and how to prevent or treat it. A few problems being: Anorexia nervosa, obesity & overweight, adolescent pregnancy, micronutrient deficiency, emotional problems, behavioral problems, substance abuse & injuries, sexually transmitted infection, thinking and studying problems, and identity problems. Along with this, we will learn about cultural problems that are a hurdle for young adults in seeking help and how we can remove these barriers. It is a relevant discussion aimed at raising awareness and reducing the overall increase in mental and physical health problems, considering the increase in stressful stimuli for children in our culture and environment.
