Abstract:
Heritabilities and character correlations were studied with 30 strains of gram (Cicer arietinum L.) including black, brown and white types. The heritability values ranged from 30.62 percent for number of seeds per ten pods to 95.55 percent for number of pods per plant, and the values for number of primary branches, number of secondary branches, 100-seed weight, plant height and seed yield were 93.37, 44.49, 56.58, 76.87 and 52.86 percent, respectively. Yield was positively correlated with all characters studied. Path coefficient analysis indicated that the direct effects of secondary branches and number of pods on yield were remarkable.
