Abstract:

Valerian is an ancient drug and used by the Romans Greeks as diuretic, analgesic and spasmodic. This drug is obtained from different species of valeriana. A number of chemical compounds have been separated and isolated from different species of valeriana also. Advancement in technology has shown many new therapeutic properties of this drug. A brief history of efficacy of this drug has been reviewed in this paper.
